Strada del Vino dell'Etna

Two days over the volcano from Randazzo to Viagrande: the contrada crus around Passopisciaro, the wine train town of Linguaglossa, Milo's Etna Bianco Superiore terraces and the southern cellars that led the Etna revival.

Benanti

Family estate below Monte Serra in Viagrande, on Etna in Sicily. Benanti pioneered bottling the volcano's sites one by one, and its Pietra Marina from Milo showed that Carricante whites can age. Brothers Antonio and Salvino Benanti now farm all four slopes. Serra della Contessa and Rovittello lead the Etna Rosso Riserva wines. Noblesse, released in 2002, was the first traditional-method sparkling Carricante on Etna. Tours and tastings run Tuesday to Sunday, by reservation.

Pietradolce

Pietradolce farms thirty hectares of high-altitude bush vines on Etna's northern slopes, with single-contrada bottlings from Rampante, Santo Spirito and Feudo di Mezzo and the prized Vigna Barbagalli. Pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese and Carricante anchor a range that runs from the entry-level Pietradolce Etna Rosso to the Barbagalli flagship.

Marc de Grazia's Etna estate, bottled contrada by contrada. Its pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese sits in Calderara Sottana, and Guardiola ranks among Europe's highest red-grape sites.

Torre Mora

Thirteen organic hectares at 600 to 750 metres on Etna's north slope, in the contrade of Dafara Galluzzo and Alboretto Chiuse del Signore. Nerello Mascalese leads an Etna DOC range through the Cauru and Scalunera lines. The lava-stone palmento hosts bookable four-wine tastings.

Strada del Vino Cerasuolo di Vittoria

Sicily's only DOCG in one flat day on the Ragusa plain: Comiso's baroque centre, Vittoria's Liberty streets and regional enoteca, Acate's castle and tasting rooms, the Biviere lake inside the Classico zone, then Gela on the sea. Fifty kilometres, four member comuni, one wine.

Founded in 1983 in Marsala by the Rallo family, Donnafugata works five Sicilian estates from the Belice valley to Pantelleria, Etna and the Cerasuolo di Vittoria zone. Ben Ryè Passito di Pantelleria and Mille e una Notte are its international reference wines. SOStain Sicilia member since 2021 and a leader in sustainable viticulture across the island.

Vincenzo Florio's 1833 cellars on the Marsala seafront, four tufa aisles holding 3,000 casks of Marsala Vergine and Superiore. Now part of the Duca di Salaparuta group, with three bookable tastings and a sea-view terrace.

Casa Vinicola Fina

Bruno Fina and his family have bottled at Contrada Bausa, outside Marsala, since 2005. Grillo, Nero d'Avola and Zibibbo lead a range split between Sicilia DOC and Terre Siciliane IGT. The cellar takes visitors on weekdays by appointment.

Planeta is one of Sicily's most influential wine families. Farm records place the family on the island from 1694, and the modern wine project began at the Ulmo estate near Menfi in 1995. The linked bottle range currently centres on Sicilia DOC, Etna DOC and Menfi DOC, with grapes such as Nero d'Avola, Carricante and Chardonnay.

Founded in 2001 by brothers Diego and Alberto Cusumano, this Partinico family winery farms more than 500 hectares across western Sicily and, under the Alta Mora label, the northern slopes of Etna.
