Tasca d'Almerita
Tasca d'Almerita has farmed Tenuta Regaleali in the hills of central Sicily since 1830. The estate covers 550 hectares, about 770 football pitches, and the family is now in its eighth generation on the land. Four further estates widen the map: Tascante on Etna, Capofaro on Salina, Whitaker on the island of Mozia and Sallier de La Tour at Monreale. The house is a certified B Corp. It has also been a driving force behind SOStain, Sicily's sustainability protocol. Visitors are received at Regaleali, on Etna and at the Capofaro resort.

About Tasca d'Almerita
In 1830 the brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca bought 1,200 hectares at Regaleali, in the old county of Sclafani between Palermo and Caltanissetta. That is almost 3,000 acres of land. The estate has been handed down through eight generations since then. Each generation has added a chapter of its own. Conte Giuseppe Tasca created Nozze d'Oro in 1984 to mark his golden wedding anniversary with Contessa Franca. His son Lucio quietly planted Sicily's first experimental rows of international grape varieties at the estate, four rows per type, without telling his father. Rosso del Conte, the flagship red from old vines in the heart of Regaleali, had its first vintage in 1970. It remains one of the reference wines of the island. Alberto Tasca leads the company today.
Tenuta Regaleali still grows vines, grain, olive and almond trees, and it anchors the whole range of wines. Rosso del Conte and Riserva del Conte sit under the tiny Contea di Sclafani DOC. The Almerita metodo classico sparklings are made here too. The Sicilia DOC line runs from Regaleali Bianco and Nero d'Avola up to Cygnus, Lamuri and the Vigna San Francesco Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
On Etna, Tenuta Tascante bottles Nerello Mascalese and Carricante as Etna DOC. That includes the single-contrada wines Pianodario, Rampante and Sciaranuova. Capofaro on Salina grows Malvasia delle Lipari vines for the Salina IGT whites. Tenuta Whitaker revives Grillo on Mozia, an ancient Phoenician island. Sallier de La Tour at Monreale is the house's home of Syrah. Its lead wine is La Monaca. Diamante and Leone bottle aromatic blends as Terre Siciliane IGT.
Sustainability here is structural, not decoration. Tasca d'Almerita helped shape the SOStain programme for Sicilian wine growing from its origins in 2010. It also supports the SOStain Sicilia Foundation, established in 2020. Under the protocol's ten requirements it measures everything from biodiversity protection to energy use. The company is a certified B Corp as well, a distinction still rare among Italian wineries. Across its estates it farms with organic defence methods.
Visiting takes three forms. At Regaleali the family opens the mother estate for tours and tastings built on its history and kitchen traditions. The Anna Tasca Lanza cooking school works from Case Vecchie, inside the property. On Etna, Tascante's Three Keys of Etna walk crosses terraced vineyards with the volcano in view. It ends with a tasting of Buonora, Tefra and Ghiaia Nera. On Salina, Capofaro is a working Malvasia vineyard that doubles as a resort, with rooms, dining and experiences above the Aeolian sea.
