A one-day loop from Termoli through the lower Biferno valley. Four cellars in Campomarino, San Martino in Pensilis and Portocannone, then Guglionesi on the hill above the river, and back to the sea.

A family estate at Portocannone, on the hills above the Adriatic in Molise. It makes Tintilia del Molise DOC and Biferno Rosso DOC alongside the Terre degli Osci IGT range. The Triassi Bordeaux blend is the flagship, and 200 Metri Tintilia is its Molise calling card.

Cantine Borgo di Colloredo

Cantine Borgo di Colloredo is a third-generation Di Giulio family estate on the Adriatic side of Molise. Its Gironia range rebuilt the profile of Biferno DOC, based on Montepulciano and Aglianico. The whites lean on Falanghina del Molise and a barrel-fermented Chardonnay called Giulia.

Catabbo

Family winery on the stony hills above Molise's Biferno valley, at San Martino in Pensilis. Vincenzo Catabbo founded it in the early 1990s. He now runs it with his children Sarah, Carla and Pasquale, across 128 acres of certified organic vines. The family is one of the producers leading the modern revival of Tintilia, the rare native red of Molise, alongside Falanghina del Molise and the everyday Petriera range.

Family estate at Campomarino farming 123 hectares of native Molise grapes. It brought Tintilia back from near-extinction, and its Don Luigi Riserva is the regional benchmark for aged Montepulciano.

Family estate at Monteroduni, on the Pentro di Isernia plateau in inland Molise. Five small vineyards give Tintilia, Falanghina and the rare Pentro DOC. The flagship La Lana ages in terracotta jars.

Molise · Montenero di Bisaccia

Terresacre

A family-run estate at Montenero di Bisaccia, in the lower Molise hills 270 metres above the Adriatic. Tenuta Terresacre planted thirty-five hectares of Tintilia, Montepulciano, Falanghina, Trebbiano and Chardonnay around its Contrada Montebello cellar in 2006. Its reputation rests on the rescue of Tintilia, the region's only truly indigenous red grape. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the Tintilia 2009 a 90-point score, an early validation of the project. Visits and tastings run year-round by appointment.
