Sicily
Progetti Agricoli was founded in 1962 as a growers' cooperative in Sicily. It has grown into one of the largest farming collectives on the island. More than 2,000 member farms now send in fruit. Their vines cover roughly 6,000 hectares, about 14,800 acres, across central and southern Sicily. The fruit goes to shared cellars and is bottled under a small set of brand lines.
Saverio Faro is the cooperative's volume Sicilia DOC range. The name comes from the founding family's surname. The aim is a clean style that stays true to each grape. Nero d'Avola makes the sun-ripened red. Grillo gives a crisp coastal white, and the Syrah grows on hotter inland slopes. Each bottle stays close to the appellation rules.
