About Casa Vinicola Botter
Carlo Botter and his wife Maria opened a wine shop in Fossalta di Piave in 1928. People came with jugs and demijohns and filled them from the barrel. The family name stayed over the door. Carlo's signature is still printed on the labels. So is the faun, the horned figure that has been the house mark from the start.
Botter is a wine house, not a farm. It buys grapes and finished wine from growers around the country. It then blends and bottles them at Fossalta. That is how one address can send out a Primitivo from Puglia and a Grillo from Sicily. The same yard ships a Sangiovese from Romagna and an Amarone from the hills above Verona.
The house changed hands in 2021, when the investment firm Clessidra bought it. A year later Botter was joined with MGM Mondo del Vino to make a new group, Argea. Botter is the largest company in it. Argea reported sales of 462 million euros in 2025. It runs eight production sites in four regions and employs more than 550 people. Over nine tenths of its wine is sold abroad.
Several labels British drinkers already know are filled here. Doppio Passo is a soft Puglian red. It gets its weight from grapes dried before pressing, a method called appassimento. Gran Passione does the same thing up in the Veneto. Caleo, Lupo Meraviglia, NA.TI.VO, Senso, Tuscante and Brilla are Botter labels too, and so is the Doppio Passo bag in box.
Most of these wines are IGT rather than DOC. That is a looser class. It allows a wider choice of grapes and a bigger patch of ground to pick them from. A few are not. The Doppio Passo Riserva is a Primitivo di Manduria DOC, and the Gran Passione Amarone carries the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG.
There is no tasting room and no cellar door. Fossalta di Piave is a working plant on the road out of the village. The contact form on the company site asks which part of the wine trade you are in. If you want to taste what Botter does, the shelf is the place to do it.
