The Allegrini family has farmed vines in the heart of Valpolicella Classica since the sixteenth century, and the modern estate is anchored on the slopes around Fumane di Valpolicella in the province of Verona. Around 150 hectares of estate vineyards stretch from the moraine ridges of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella to the limestone hillsides above Mazzurega, with a single Lugana cru at Pozzolengo on the southern shore of Lake Garda.
The estate's modern reputation was built by Giovanni Allegrini, widely credited with helping drive the rebirth of Valpolicella in the second half of the twentieth century. His three children, Walter, Franco, and Marilisa, took the project international in the eighties and nineties. Today Walter's daughter Silvia and Franco's children Francesco, Giovanni, and Matteo carry the family line into the next chapter of the Allegrini estate.
Allegrini's identity is built around single-vineyard bottlings, almost all centred on the indigenous Corvina grape. La Poja, planted on a single south-facing hilltop in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, is one of Italy's rare 100 percent Corvina wines, while La Grola from the same village and Palazzo della Torre from the Fumane home estate are among the most recognised Veronese reds. Franco Allegrini's work on barrique ageing, planting density, and the appassimento drying process at the Terre di Fumane facility set a benchmark for modern Amarone winemaking.
The cellar's flagship is the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, a long-aged dry red built from dried Corvina, Rondinella, and supporting indigenous grapes from the Valpolicella Classica zone. Around it the estate bottles Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Classico Superiore Grola, the IGT Veronese Palazzo della Torre, La Poja, and the single-vineyard Fieramonte Amarone, alongside a Lugana from the Oasi Mantellina vineyard, a Soave, and the historic Recioto Giovanni Allegrini named for the family patriarch.
Guided tastings and vineyard visits run at the Allegrini cellars in Fumane on weekdays, taking visitors from the Valpolicella vineyards through the Terre di Fumane drying lofts and into the winery itself. Booking is by enquiry through [email protected] rather than an online platform, and the experiences focus on wine and place rather than pairing menus or accommodation.
