La Gioiosa
La Gioiosa is a Prosecco house at Crocetta del Montello, in the Treviso countryside north of Venice, and one of the Prosecco names British drinkers meet most often. It belongs to the Moretti Polegato family, whose vineyards here date from the 1920s, and shares its base with the family's Villa Sandi estate. The range runs from Prosecco DOC Treviso to Valdobbiadene and Asolo Superiore DOCG, all suitable for vegans. Most of its power comes from water and sun. It does not run public visits; the wines are the story.

About La Gioiosa
The name is a nod to an old title for the Treviso countryside, the Marca Gioiosa et Amorosa, the joyful and loving march. The family behind it is the Moretti Polegatos. Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, the president, is the grandson of the man who bought the first vineyards in the Treviso hills in the 1920s. The group's showpiece estate, Villa Sandi, is a Palladian villa built in 1622 on the same road at Crocetta del Montello. La Gioiosa is the everyday brand, with its head office at Via Erizzo 113/A.
The wines come from four sites. Crocetta del Montello is home base. Valdobbiadene supplies the Prosecco Superiore DOCG, inside the UNESCO-listed hills. Nervesa della Battaglia, on the Montello, was the first of the estates to earn Biodiversity Friend certification. A fourth estate at Spilimbergo, in Friuli, grows Glera, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero and Ribolla Gialla. About 60 per cent of production is exported, to more than 110 countries.
The range covers the whole Prosecco ladder. At the everyday end sit Prosecco DOC Treviso, a Prosecco DOC Rosé Millesimato and an organic Prosecco DOC Brut. Above them come Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Extra Dry and an Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG made under the Biodiversity Friend label. The Ca' Divo Extra Dry and the Rosea sparkling rosé round it off.
Every Prosecco and sparkling rosé here is suitable for vegans. The company confirmed that in writing in February 2024. In November 2018 it had already said it uses no casein, albumin or gelatine. The energy side is unusual too. A hydroelectric plant produces 600,000 kWh a year, a fifth of what the winery uses, and solar panels installed in 2012 supply another 40 per cent. More than 60 per cent of its power comes from water and sun.
There is no tasting room or tour programme at La Gioiosa itself. The family's visitor business runs from Villa Sandi next door, with its underground cellars and guided tours. What the Crocetta del Montello site does offer is a Vineyard Gym: a free fitness circuit laid out among the vines, open to anyone.
