Tasting Notes

What La Gioiosa's Prosecco DOC Rosé tastes like

La Gioiosa's own sheet describes a pomegranate-pink colour, small red fruits and rose on the nose, and a silky, full palate. The blend is 90% Glera and 10% Pinot Nero, with 12 grams of sugar a litre, so it is a Brut with a soft edge rather than a bone-dry one.

Nose

Pale pink with a pomegranate tint. Strawberry and raspberry come first, with a rose-petal note behind them: the small red fruits and rose that La Gioiosa's own sheet picks out. In the 2025 there is also a crisp cherry edge and a flick of white pepper.

Palate

Light, fresh and softly fizzy. The 12 grams of sugar a litre, the most a Brut may carry, give it a silky feel without tasting sweet. The acidity is lively, 5.8 grams a litre, from Glera picked in mid September. A tenth of the blend is Pinot Nero, picked in late August. It gets a light soak on its skins at a controlled temperature, which gives the colour and the red-fruit taste without any grip.

Finish

Clean and fruity. Strawberry and a squeeze of citrus linger, and in the 2025 the pepper note stays a moment longer. At around 11% alcohol it stays light to the last sip.

Overall

A Brut rosé Prosecco made for the aperitivo hour, from the Moretti Polegato family's house in Crocetta del Montello. Falstaff gave the 2025 92 points, calling it extremely juicy on the palate with a precise acidity structure. Drinkers pick out strawberry and raspberry most, then apple and citrus. We would drink the 2025 from 2026 to 2027.

Buying La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC Rosé 2025 in the UK

Majestic is the only UK shop we list with the 2025 in stock, at £12 a bottle, and it takes a little off per bottle when you buy any six wines. With one shop there is no price to compare. For a vintage-dated Prosecco rosé that Falstaff scored 92, £12 sits a little under the middle of what UK shops charge for the style.

Wine fit score

How La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC Rosé scores for food, value and everyday drinking

It scores best as a beginner-friendly, everyday bottle: soft, fruity, low in alcohol and £12 at the one UK shop that sells it. Food matching is close behind, thanks to the acidity and bubbles that suit prawns, oysters and fried snacks.

Best intro to this style 8.8/10

Soft, fruity and dry without being austere: 12 grams of sugar a litre and low alcohol. Strawberry and raspberry from the Pinot Nero make it an easy first pink fizz.

Best everyday bottle 8.5/10

A £12 bottle at around 11% alcohol, light enough for a Tuesday aperitivo, and cheaper per bottle when you buy six at the shop that sells it.

Best with food 7.8/10

Fresh acidity, fine bubbles and around 11% alcohol suit prawns, oysters, fried snacks and cured meat, and the Pinot Nero strawberry note reaches smoked salmon and tomato salads. Too light for red meat and too dry for puddings.

Best value 7.0/10

At £12 it sits a little under the middle of what UK shops charge for a Prosecco DOC rosé. Falstaff scored the 2025 92, and the one shop selling it takes more off by the six.

Best for an occasion 5.0/10

A pink fizz that looks the part at a party or a brunch, but it is a DOC Prosecco from a large house, not a prestige bottle for a milestone.

Best for cellar 1.2/10

Made to drink young. The bubbles come from a tank with 60 days on the yeast, and the fruit fades after about two years. Drink the 2025 from 2026 to 2027.

Scoring is rule-based and deterministic. The model and weightings are documented in our Wine Fit Score methodology.

La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC Rosé 2025: the vintage on sale now

Every Prosecco DOC Rosé carries a vintage, because the rules require at least 85% of the grapes from one harvest. The bottle on sale is the 2025. Early reports from the Conegliano Valdobbiadene hills pointed to a year with less rain than 2024 and healthy Glera, and Falstaff gave the finished 2025 92 points in April 2026. We would drink it from 2026 to 2027.

The disciplinare, the place, the label

La Gioiosa: the Moretti Polegato family's Prosecco house in Crocetta del Montello

La Gioiosa's story began in the 1920s, when the grandfather of its president, Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, bought vineyards in the Treviso hills. Its main seat is still the estate at Crocetta del Montello. Today 60% of its production goes abroad, to more than 110 countries. Falstaff gave this rosé 92 points for the 2025 and 91 for the 2024.

01

DOC, DOCG, IGT: what the badges mean

Italian wine law sorts bottles into a pyramid. DOCG sits at the top: tightly drawn boundaries, prescribed grapes, mandatory ageing, government tasting before release. DOC is the same idea with looser thresholds. IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) is broader still, requiring only that 85% of the grapes come from the named territory.

Prosecco is in the DOC tier. That is not a quality verdict, it is a description of how much freedom the producer has at vinification and ageing.

Main factor
UK duty and VAT inside a £12 bottle
  1. 01

UK duty and VAT inside a £12 bottle

    Cost up

Of a £12 bottle, about £4.40 is tax. Duty is £2.41 at the 10.5% on the UK label, because the UK charges £30.62 per litre of pure alcohol, and VAT adds £2. At the 11% on the Italian sheet the duty would be £2.53, about 12p more.

  2. 02

Bubbles made in a tank, with 60 days on the yeast

    Cost down

The fizz comes from a second fermentation in a sealed tank, the method the Prosecco DOC rules require, with at least 60 days on the yeast. That costs far less than fermenting in each bottle, as Champagne and Franciacorta must.

  3. 03

Generous crops allowed on the Prosecco DOC plains

    Cost down

The appellation allows up to 18 tonnes of grapes from each hectare, and for 2025 anything over 15 tonnes was held in storage rather than sold. Big crops keep the grape cost in each bottle low.

  4. 04

A tenth of the blend is Pinot Nero, made as a light red

    Cost up

La Gioiosa picks the Pinot Nero in late August, a fortnight or more before the Glera, and runs it separately as a light red at 22 to 23°C for colour. A second grape and a second process add a little cost over a white Prosecco.

  5. 05

Vintage-dated by law and sealed with cork

    Cost up

A Prosecco DOC Rosé must be at least 85% from one harvest, so La Gioiosa cannot smooth costs by blending years. The 2025 is sealed with natural cork rather than a screwcap.

  6. 06

A big house selling to 110 countries, cheaper by the six

    Cost down

La Gioiosa sends 60% of its production abroad to more than 110 countries, and bottling at that scale costs less per bottle. The one UK shop selling it also takes a little off the £12 when you buy any six wines.

Perfect Pairings

Dishes that go with this wine

Food Pairing

Aperitivo snacks, seafood and summer plates: what to eat with La Gioiosa's rosé

La Gioiosa's own tip is an aperitif, then finger food and Mediterranean first courses. Its fresh acidity and small bubbles suit prawns, oysters and fried snacks, and the Pinot Nero's strawberry note carries over to smoked salmon and tomato salads. Keep it away from hot curries and puddings sweeter than the wine.

Salt balance Strong match

Aperitivo snacks and cured meat

Salt in prosciutto, olives and fried snacks makes the strawberry fruit in this Prosecco rosé taste riper, and its small bubbles scrub the fat away between bites. A dry pink fizz at around 11% alcohol never swamps a plate of nibbles. La Gioiosa's own first match is an aperitif with finger food.

Try with: Arancini · Gnocco fritto · Insalata Caprese · Vitello Tonnato · More pairings →

Acidity matching Strong match

Oysters, prawns and smoked fish

The acidity in this Glera and Pinot Nero fizz, 5.8 grams a litre, works like a squeeze of lemon on shellfish. Low alcohol means it does not fight the brine. The red-fruit note from the Pinot Nero sits well next to smoked salmon, where a white Prosecco can taste thin.

Try with: Oysters · Potted Shrimp · Scottish Smoked Salmon · Fish and Chips · More pairings →

Fat cutting Good match

Fried food: tempura, squid and chips

Bubbles and acidity cut through batter and oil, so each mouthful of fried squid or tempura tastes fresh again. The hint of sugar in this Brut rosé rounds off the salt on the chips. La Gioiosa's own UK sheet names grilled squid as a match.

Try with: Prawn Tempura · Salt and pepper squid · Fish and Chips · Arancini

Body matching Good match

Light risottos and pasta

A light pink Prosecco matches the weight of a vegetable risotto or a pesto pasta without overpowering it. Its acidity lifts the butter and cheese in the rice. The producer's own tip is Mediterranean first courses after the aperitif.

Try with: Pumpkin risotto · Trofie al pesto · Squid ink risotto · Risotto alla Milanese · More pairings →

Aromatic bridge Good match

Summer salads, crab and salmon

The strawberry, raspberry and rose in this Prosecco rosé echo the sweetness in crab, salmon and ripe tomato, so the wine and the plate taste of the same summer. It is dry enough for a tomato and mozzarella salad and light enough for a brunch table.

Try with: Insalata Caprese · Crab · Salmon · Shrimp Tacos

Avoid Clash

Hot curries, chilli and sweet puddings

Chilli heat makes a light Brut rosé taste thin and sour, because there is no weight or sweetness to cushion it. A pudding sweeter than the wine's 12 grams of sugar a litre strips the fruit and leaves only the acid. Keep this Prosecco for the start of the meal.

Skip with: Chicken madras · Crispy chilli beef · Sweet and sour pork · Sticky Toffee Pudding · Pairing guide →

Drinking + cellar

Drink La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC Rosé young: 2026 to 2027 for the 2025

This is not a wine to keep. The bubbles come from a second fermentation in tank, with at least 60 days on the yeast, and the fruit is at its best within two years of harvest. We would drink the 2025 from 2026 to 2027. The UK label gives 10.5% alcohol; the producer's Italian sheet gives an average of 11%.

La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC Rosé: the grapes, appellation and region behind it

Common Questions

It is 90% Glera and 10% Pinot Nero, the blend La Gioiosa gives on its UK site. The rules for Prosecco DOC Rosé ask for at least 85% Glera and 10% to 15% Pinot Nero made as a red wine. That red wine is where the pink colour and the strawberry note come from.

It is dry, with a soft fruity edge. It is labelled Brut and carries 12 grams of sugar a litre, the top of the Brut band. The UK label gives 10.5% alcohol, while the producer's Italian sheet gives an average of 11%. It is vegan and vegetarian.

Because the rules say it must. A Prosecco DOC Rosé has to be at least 85% from one harvest and carry the word Millesimato and the year. The bottle on sale now is the 2025, which Falstaff scored 92 points in April 2026.

Majestic sells the 2025 at £12 a bottle. It is the only UK shop we list with it in stock, so there is no price to compare between shops. Majestic takes a little off per bottle when you buy any six wines together.

Aperitivo snacks and seafood first. La Gioiosa's own tip is an aperitif, then finger food and Mediterranean first courses. Prawns, oysters, arancini, smoked salmon and light risottos all work. Avoid hot curries and puddings sweeter than the wine.

Drink it now. We would open the 2025 between 2026 and 2027, while the strawberry and rose notes are fresh. It is a tank-made fizz with 60 days on the yeast, not a wine that improves in the cellar. Serve it well chilled.
