Ville d'Arfanta is the Serena family's wine estate near Tarzo, in the Treviso hills. Brothers Giorgio and Gerardo Serena bought the old country house in 1999 and restored it. Around it sit six hectares of Glera vines, just over eight football pitches. They grow on the cool north flank of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG hills. The house is set up for Prosecco tastings and overnight stays. The wines themselves are made by Serena Wines 1881, the family firm founded by their grandparents.
The country house at Localita Pare has stood for generations. Its life as a wine-tourism estate began in 1999. That year brothers Giorgio and Gerardo Serena fell for the rough beauty of the Arfanta slopes north of Tarzo. They bought the property and restored the house. The six surrounding hectares of Glera went into Serena Wines 1881, the family firm their grandparents had founded over a century earlier.
The vines face north-east across the upper Conegliano-Valdobbiadene zone. These Prosecco heartland hills joined the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2019. The cooler exposure suits Glera. It stretches the ripening season and feeds the lifted aromatic style the producer is known for. The label covers Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Prosecco DOC Treviso and a Pinot Grigio delle Venezie.
The estate is run for guests more than for production. Visitors come for guided walks among the vines. They sit down to tastings paired with platters of local food. They stay in the converted farmhouse rooms. The winemaking happens elsewhere. The wider Serena Wines 1881 cellar makes and ages the wines. Ville d'Arfanta provides the setting in the hills.
The practical side is simple. The estate is about an hour by car from Treviso, and about the same from Conegliano. Both towns can be reached from Venice in under two hours. Tarzo is a quiet hill town. Around it lies the densest concentration of Prosecco Superiore DOCG vineyards in Italy. The 2019 UNESCO listing raised the area's wine-tourism profile. The house sits inside that protected hillside zone.
