• Can you visit Mezzacorona? add remove
  Yes, by request. Guided tours of the Cittadella del Vino run from 9am to 6pm, closed on Sunday, in Italian, English or German. The Italian page says Monday to Friday and the English page adds Saturday, so check the day when you ask. Tastings pair the wines with local food. • Is Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio vegan? add remove
  Yes. In 2014 Mezzacorona told the Barnivore directory that bentonite, a clay, is the only fining agent it uses. It uses no egg white, casein, gelatine or isinglass. In 2021 it confirmed that its products contain nothing of animal origin. That covers the Pinot Grigio and the Castel Firmian range. Mezzacorona says this applies to all its wines; Rotari is not listed on its own.

  The red grape of the Piana Rotaliana, the gravel plain around Mezzocorona, and the local speciality. Teroldego Rotaliano gained DOC status in 1971. Mezzacorona bottles it in the Castel Firmian line, alongside the Trentino DOC reds.

  Mezzacorona's sparkling-wine brand. Rotari wines are Trento DOC, made in the bottle by the same method as Champagne. There is a Brut, a rosé and longer-aged Riserva bottlings. Trento DOC dates from 1993 and was the first Italian DOC kept for sparkling wine made this way.

  Big. More than 1,500 grower families own it and farm about 2,500 hectares between them, roughly 3,500 football pitches. Its main winery, the Cittadella del Vino at Mezzocorona, covers 13 hectares and has a 500-metre glass front. The cooperative calls it the largest industrial wine complex in Europe.
