Lungoparma makes sparkling and still wines in Parma, a city better known for its ham and cheese than for its glass. The brand grew out of the city's wine co-operative cellar, a meeting point for local growers since 1946, and now belongs to the century-old Gandolfi food group. Its flagship is Il Classico, a brut sparkler aged 30 months on its spent yeasts.
The company behind Lungoparma is Gruppo Gandolfi, a Parma food business that has traded for more than a century. It bought the historic co-operative cellar that Parma's growers had shared since 1946 and relaunched it as a modern wine brand. Growers across the Emilian hills still bring in their best hand-picked grapes each harvest. The wine is made at the old city cellar on Via Forlanini.
The flagship is Il Classico, a metodo classico brut from 70% Pinot Nero and 30% Chardonnay. It spends 30 months on its lees and rests at least six more in the cellar after the yeast is removed. The nose runs to citrus, dried fruit, mineral notes and a touch of pastry. A rose version flips the blend to 80% Pinot Nero, with part of the grapes given a short cold soak on their skins for colour.
Two still wines and a tank-method sparkler complete the core range. Bianco Reale is a hand-picked white sold under the Emilia IGT label, pressed gently and fermented cold. Quota 16 is the big red: old local grape varieties, ageing in steel and oak casks of several sizes, and a full 16% alcohol. Oro 99, a Chardonnay fizz restyled in late 2025, spends up to a year in tank and now finishes drier, with less sugar than before.
You may have seen the name before tasting the wine. Lungoparma's name has appeared around Serie A football, the Davis Cup, the United Rugby Championship and the Longines show-jumping tour. On the shelf, its wines took places in Luca Maroni's Best Italian Wines guide in both 2023 and 2024.
Tastings do not happen at the city cellar but at Castello di Felino, a hilltop castle south of Parma that also houses a salami museum. Lungoparma has turned the castle's stone cellars into its tasting and events space. Book a date and time through the reservation form on the official site. A dedicated email for the experience is listed there too.
