About Librandi Antonio Cataldo & Nicodemo

Librandi traces its roots to 1953, when Raffaele Librandi began bottling Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco from small parcels in the Cirò DOC under a tiny cellar in Cirò Marina. From the 1950s until 2012 the firm was led by his sons Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi, whose names the company still carries today. The third generation, Raffaele, Paolo, Francesco, Teresa, Walter and Daniela Librandi, now runs every part of the business, from vineyard work and winemaking to bottling and commercial direction. The modern winery sits on the SS 106 in Contrada San Gennaro, opened in 1975 and still the heart of production. Estate growth followed a steady pattern of land acquisitions: Tenuta Ponta in 1955, the Strongoli vineyards that became Tenuta Arcidiaconato in 1985, and Tenuta Rosaneti in 1997. Each estate gave Librandi a distinct piece of Cirò and Val di Neto terroir between the Ionian Sea and the foothills of the Sila massif. Librandi's flagship reds carry the recent history of Calabrian wine in their labels. Duca Sanfelice, the Cirò Rosso Riserva, debuted in 1983 and has since become a Tre Bicchieri benchmark for the appellation. The IGT Calabria Gravello was first bottled in 1988 and now appears regularly in the Bibenda 5 Grappoli and AIS Vitae 4 Viti lists. Magno Megonio (1995, magnum-only at launch) and the white Efeso (2001) extended the range, followed in 2005 by Asylia, the estate's Melissa DOC line, and the Rosaneti and Almaneti metodo classico sparkling wines from 2007. Research sits alongside winemaking. Librandi's experimental vineyard at Ponta, set up in 1993, recovers minor Calabrian varieties and selects mass-clones for the next generation of plantings. In 2014 the Italian Gazzetta Ufficiale registered the first clones of Calabrian varieties on the National Vine Variety Registry, all developed in Librandi's research programme. The estate also founded I Vignaioli del Cirò in 2008, a 42-member growers' association built around shared standards in the appellation. Sustainability is formalised through Equalitas certification, the Italian wine sector's standard that audits social, environmental and economic performance under one framework. Annual sustainability reports, lighter bottles, energy-saving investments and ongoing biodiversity projects with universities and research centres sit on the public record alongside the wines.
