Librandi Antonio Cataldo & Nicodemo
Librandi is a third-generation Calabrian estate on the SS 106 in Cirò Marina, the Ionian heartland of Cirò DOC. Raffaele Librandi began bottling Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco here in 1953, and the third generation now runs the whole business. Its red, white, rosé, sparkling and passito wines come from estate vineyards across Cirò and Val di Neto. The flagship reds are Duca Sanfelice, a Cirò Rosso Riserva, and the IGT Calabria Gravello. Its research team registered the first official clones of native Calabrian grapes.

About Librandi Antonio Cataldo & Nicodemo
Librandi's roots go back to 1953. That year Raffaele Librandi began bottling Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco in a tiny cellar in Cirò Marina, from small parcels in the Cirò DOC. From the 1950s until 2012 the firm was led by his sons, Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi. The company still carries their names today. The third generation now runs every part of the business: Raffaele, Paolo, Francesco, Teresa, Walter and Daniela Librandi. Their work runs from the vineyards and winemaking to bottling and the commercial side.
The modern winery opened in 1975 on the SS 106, in the San Gennaro district, and is still the heart of production. The estate grew through steady land purchases. Tenuta Ponta came in 1955. The Strongoli vineyards, later named Tenuta Arcidiaconato, followed in 1985, and Tenuta Rosaneti in 1997. Each one gave Librandi a distinct piece of Cirò and Val di Neto, between the Ionian Sea and the foothills of the Sila massif.
The flagship reds carry the recent history of Calabrian wine on their labels. Duca Sanfelice, the Cirò Rosso Riserva, first appeared in 1983. It has since become a Tre Bicchieri benchmark for the appellation. The IGT Calabria Gravello was first bottled in 1988. It now appears regularly in the Bibenda 5 Grappoli and AIS Vitae 4 Viti lists. Magno Megonio arrived in 1995, sold only in magnum at launch. The white Efeso followed in 2001. Asylia, the estate's Melissa DOC line, came in 2005. The Rosaneti and Almaneti traditional-method sparkling wines date from 2007.
Research sits alongside the winemaking. The experimental vineyard at Ponta, set up in 1993, recovers minor Calabrian grape varieties and selects mass-clones for the next generation of plantings. In 2014 the Italian Gazzetta Ufficiale registered the first clones of Calabrian varieties on the National Vine Variety Registry. All of them came out of Librandi's research programme. In 2008 the estate also founded I Vignaioli del Cirò, a growers' association with 42 members, built around shared standards in Cirò.
The estate holds Equalitas certification, the Italian wine sector's standard that audits social, environmental and economic performance under one framework. It publishes annual sustainability reports. It has moved to lighter bottles and invested in saving energy. It runs biodiversity projects with universities and research centres. All of this sits on the public record alongside the wines.
