What Dieci.Nove.Dieci Primitivo tastes like
Losito & Guarini's own sheet puts herbs before fruit: Mediterranean scrub, a dill-like spice, then a balanced and persistent palate. The wine ages in steel, not barrel, so the 2023 drinks fresh and young.

- Typical of Primitivo
Mediterranean herbs lead: the wild fennel and scrub of the Taranto and Brindisi countryside where the grapes grow. Behind them sits a spicy, dill-like edge. Black cherry stays under the herbs rather than on top. The fruit is clean and fresh because the wine ages in steel, never in barrel.
Medium-bodied and dry at 13%, with a ripe black-cherry core and a touch of raspberry. The herbal note carries through from the nose. That makes this a savoury Primitivo rather than a jammy one. The grapes grow on medium-textured soils near the 40th parallel and ferment at a controlled 25 degrees. That keeps the wine balanced rather than heavy.
The finish is persistent and spicy, ending on dried herbs rather than oak or sweetness. Served a little cool, at 16 to 18 degrees, it stays fresh to the last sip.
This is Losito & Guarini's entry Primitivo, sold under its Dieci.Nove.Dieci brand and listed below the Primitivo di Manduria of the firm's Apulia Collection. The Lombardy firm bottles it from Puglia grapes. Drinkers find it a sound, uncomplicated red, and that is how to treat it. A herbal weeknight Primitivo for now to 2026, not a big barrel-aged one.

How Dieci.Nove.Dieci Primitivo scores for a UK buyer
A soft, herbal everyday Primitivo at £14.80 from one UK shop. Strong for weeknight food and for anyone new to the grape, weak as a cellar or special-occasion bottle.
A soft, dry, 13% Primitivo with ripe black cherry and no oak. Puglia's best-known grape in its easiest form, from a big family bottler, at a mid price.
Under £15, 13% alcohol, dry and balanced, with a weeknight-friendly herbal style. The only brake is that one UK shop sells it.
Medium body, dry and balanced, with the freshness steel ageing keeps and a herbal edge. A flexible red for roast and grilled meat, meat sauces and cheese, less so for fish or spice.
Vino.com's £14.80 sits almost exactly on the middle price of the 160 Puglia IGT wines we track, about £14.40. A ratio of 1.03: fair, not a bargain.
An entry-level Puglia IGT brand label from a large bottler, aged in steel. An honest weeknight red, not a bottle for a celebration table.

The 2023 vintage in Puglia: a small, rain-hit crop
Rain through May and June 2023 brought downy mildew to Puglia's vineyards. Estimates of the region's crop loss ran from a quarter to a half against 2022. Growers around Taranto were also offered a third of the previous year's price for their grapes. The grapes that were saved kept good aromas, and this steel-aged Primitivo is made for drinking young anyway.

2023 was a wet, hard year in Puglia. Rain through May and June brought downy mildew and cut the region's grape crop by a quarter to a half against 2022. The fruit that was saved kept good aromas, and this steel-aged Primitivo is made to drink young, so open it by 2026.

Perfect Pairings
Dishes that go with this wine
Herbs and a medium body: dishes for this Primitivo
Losito & Guarini matches it with roast red meat, grills, pasta with meat sauce, medium-aged cheese and lentil soup, and even names Turkish kofte kebabs. The herbal edge is the key. It meets char, cumin and parsley where a jammy Primitivo would not.
Roast red meat and the Sunday joint
Medium body and 13% alcohol sit level with roast beef and lamb rather than fighting them. The dill-like herbal edge does what a sprig of rosemary does on the joint. A balanced, steel-aged red like this suits a leaner cut as well as a fatty one.
Try with: Sunday Roast Beef · Roast Lamb with Mint Sauce · Shepherd's Pie · More pairings →
Barbecue and grilled meat
Char and smoke want fruit with a savoury edge, and this wine has both: ripe black cherry with Mediterranean herbs behind it. The freshness that steel ageing keeps cuts through the fat of ribs and pork. Losito & Guarini names grilled dishes among its matches, right after roast red meat.
Try with: BBQ ribs · Pulled pork · Lamb chops · More pairings →
Pasta with a slow meat sauce
A long-cooked meat and tomato sauce is rich and a little sharp. A dry, medium-bodied red that keeps its freshness in steel meets it rather than tasting flat beside it. Its herbal note suits a sauce full of herbs. This is the pasta match the producer's own sheet gives.
Try with: Ragu alla bolognese · Lasagna · Agnello Ragu Lucano · More pairings →
Spiced minced-meat kebabs
Losito & Guarini names Turkish kofte kebabs as a match, and the reason is aroma. The wine's dill-like spice and dried-herb notes meet the cumin, parsley and onion in the meat. Keep the heat mild; the wine suits warm spice, not chilli.
Try with: Kafta Kebab · Lamb Kebab · Lamb seekh kebab · More pairings →
Medium-aged cheese
Salt in a medium-aged cheese makes the wine's black-cherry fruit taste riper and rounds out the dry, herbal edge. A southern Italian caciocavallo or a pecorino is the home match. A strong cheddar works for the same reason.
Try with: Caciocavallo farcito · Pecorino sardo e pan carasau · Strong cheddar cheese · More pairings →
Hot chilli, sweet sauces and raw fish
Chilli heat makes the 13% alcohol burn and strips the herbal notes. Sweet-and-sour sauces make a dry red taste sour and thin. Raw fish and oysters turn the tannin metallic. Keep this Primitivo for meat, cheese and tomato.
Skip with: Green curry · Sweet and sour pork · Nigiri Sushi · Oysters · Crispy chilli beef · Pairing guide →
Drink Dieci.Nove.Dieci Primitivo young, by 2026
This is a steel-aged Puglia IGT red at 13%, bottled through a cold sterile filter to stay stable. It is not a wine to lay down. Open the 2023 between now and 2026, at 16 to 18 degrees; there is nothing to gain from keeping it.
Best in the years above; holds without falling over either side.
A short splash decant softens the first-pour edge and opens the aromatics.
Aim for the cooler end on a warm day; warmer end opens up more aromatics.

Common Questions
It is a dry red made from 100% Primitivo grown in Puglia's Taranto and Brindisi provinces. Losito & Guarini, a family wine firm based in Lombardy, sells it under the Puglia IGT label. The wine ferments at a controlled 25 degrees and ages in steel, so it is fresh and herbal rather than oaky, at 13% alcohol.
Losito & Guarini makes it, a family firm started in 1910 by Domenico Losito, who left Trani in Puglia for the Milan area. It is a brand label, not an estate wine. The firm says it buys its grapes from trusted suppliers. It fills over 30 million bottles a year, with its cellar at Redavalle in the Oltrepò Pavese.
Herbs first: Mediterranean scrub and wild fennel on the nose, with a spicy, dill-like edge, then black cherry. It is medium-bodied and dry, balanced, with a persistent, savoury finish. Serve it at 16 to 18 degrees.
Roast red meat, barbecued meat, pasta with a meat sauce, medium-aged cheese and lentil soup. The producer also names Turkish kofte kebabs, and the wine's herbal edge is why that works. Keep it away from hot chilli, sweet sauces and raw fish.
Vino.com is the only UK shop we track for it. It lists the 2023 at £14.80, down from £21.14, as checked on 30 September 2026. There is no price to compare between shops. Of that £14.80, about £5.46 is UK duty and VAT.
It was a hard year. Heavy rain in May and June 2023 brought downy mildew across Puglia. Estimates of the region's crop loss ran from a quarter to a half against 2022. The grapes that were saved kept good aromas. This wine is made to drink young, so the 2023 is for the next two years, not the cellar.
