Perlage is an organic Prosecco estate at Farra di Soligo, in the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, north of Treviso. The Nardi family founded it in 1985 and has farmed without synthetic chemicals from the first day. Seven Nardi brothers and sisters started it, and a third generation joined the company in 2022. Some slopes reach a 70 per cent gradient, so all the vineyard work is done by hand. It runs tastings and cellar tours six days a week, and every wine it makes is certified vegan.
Book a visitSeven brothers and sisters started Perlage in 1985: Antonio, Geminiano, Dino, Rosanella, Ivo, Claudio and Flavio Nardi. They took on the family land at Farra di Soligo with their parents, Tiziano Nardi and Afra De Rosso, and chose to farm it organic from the start. In the 1980s that was a rare choice in the Prosecco hills. The estate says it was the first in these hills to try organic farming. It built its name on export: by the early 2000s about nine bottles in ten went abroad.
The land is steep. The family company, Azienda Agricola 7 Nardi, farms about 20 hectares itself, roughly 28 football pitches, spread over Farra di Soligo, Refrontolo, Miane and San Pietro di Feletto. Some slopes reach a 70 per cent gradient. All the work is done by hand, and the estate reckons it takes about five times the labour of a flat vineyard. More than 40 grower families supply organic grapes to the same standard. Some of the wines come from plots farmed biodynamically. These hills became a UNESCO World Heritage site on 7 July 2019.
Two firsts came out of the cellar. Perlage says it made the first Valdobbiadene DOCG with no added sulphites. In 2012 it began trials for a vegan Prosecco, released as Sgajo Prosecco DOC Extra Dry, and by 2016 the whole range carried vegan certification. The wines are cleared with plant and yeast proteins instead of egg white or milk proteins. The company is also a certified B Corp.
A third generation joined the company in 2022. Michele Nardi chairs the board, Anna Nardi runs administration and represents the brand, Sandro Nardi handles sales and planning, and Tobia works in the vineyards. Ivo Nardi, one of the founding seven, is still managing director and vineyard manager. The new generation's first release was Tiziano Nardi Cuvée del Fondatore, named after their grandfather. Winemaker Andrea Gallina makes the range: Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Prosecco DOC, organic still wines and small limited editions.
Visitors are welcome from Monday to Saturday. A 30-minute counter tasting of four sparkling wines costs 15 euros. An hour on the veranda with five wines and a board of local cheese and cured meats costs 25 euros. A 90-minute cellar tour with the same tasting costs 35 euros.
