Guidi 1929 is a family winery in the Chianti hills between Florence and Siena. Avio Guidi runs it with his sons Giacomo and Nicola, the fourth generation since the business began in 1929. The tasting room and shop are at San Silvestro, near San Donato in Poggio, in Chianti Classico country; the offices are in Poggibonsi. The estate farms more than 30 hectares of vines for Chianti Classico and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, and the range runs across Tuscany. Private tastings, cooking classes and truffle hunts are by reservation.
Book a visitThe Guidi have made wine since 1929. Avio Guidi heads the family and the company now. His son Giacomo follows the wine from vineyard to cellar, and his son Nicola looks after sales and new markets. Avio's wife Tiziana keeps the family together, and a fifth generation, Bernardo and Adele, arrived in 2020 and 2024.
The estate's own vines cover more than 30 hectares. From them come Chianti Classico and its Riserva, and Vernaccia di San Gimignano with a Riserva of its own. There is also a set of Toscana IGT wines. The reds are Avus Venter and Bernardo, there is a Bernardo white, a rosé called Daliae and a Vermentino called Campo alle Lucciole. The Guidi label reaches further too: Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, Chianti Colli Senesi and a Vin Santo del Chianti Occhio di Pernice.
Visitors come to the tasting room at San Silvestro, a hamlet outside San Donato in Poggio in the Chianti Classico hills. Everything is private and by reservation, in English or Italian. A tasting of five or more wines with Tuscan olive oil takes about an hour and a half. A cooking class makes fresh pasta and a Tuscan dessert, then sits down to eat them with the wines. There is a truffle hunt with a trained dog, a grape-stomping session, and a two-and-a-half-hour session blending your own wine, which goes home with you bottled and labelled. The family asks you to write or call for dates and prices.
The company's offices and warehouse are in Poggibonsi, at Via Liguria, and that is the company's registered address. The tasting room is open from ten to six on weekdays and ten to one at weekends, always by appointment.
