Can you visit Corte di Valle for a wine tasting?

Yes. The estate runs four tastings, of three, four, five or six wines, for staying guests and day visitors. The estate's staff lead them from 10am to 6pm, and Tuscan plates of cheese, cured meats and bruschetta can be added. You can book online through Winalist or Winedering, or send a request on the estate's own website. Booked direct, you pay at the estate on the day, and changes or cancellations need at least four days' notice.

Where is Corte di Valle and how do you get there?

Corte di Valle is at Via Vicchio 26/28, 50022 Greve in Chianti, beside the Via Chiantigiana (SP222) at kilometre 18.5. The estate sits in the Chianti Classico hills near Greve in Chianti. Florence is 45 to 60 minutes away and Siena 60 to 75 minutes. A car is the easiest way to arrive, though buses stop along the Via Chiantigiana.

Can you stay overnight at Corte di Valle?

Yes. Rooms and apartments are spread across the 19th-century villa and two historic buildings, Casa di Caccia and Casa del Bosco. They range from Classic rooms for two, of 22 square metres, to apartments for four with a kitchen and a private terrace. Breakfast is included, and there is a seasonal pool and free parking. Check-in runs from 2pm to 7pm, and a booking can be cancelled free of charge up to 14 days before arrival.

What wines does Corte di Valle make?

Its main wine is Chianti Classico, made from Sangiovese alone, along with a Chianti Classico Riserva. Two Toscana IGT reds, Pietraia and Vindia, mix Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and Ombre di Valle is pure Merlot. There is also a rosé, still and sparkling, an everyday red and white, and a Vin Santo. The Chianti Classico wine consortium lists Corte di Valle among its estates.

Can you eat at Corte di Valle?

Yes, in several ways. Tuscan plates of local food are served all day with the tastings. Every day at 11am, a lunch experience lets you help prepare simple traditional dishes, then eat them with the estate's wines. During a stay, dinner can be booked and is served on the terrace when the weather allows, or indoors.

Can you hold a wedding at Corte di Valle?

Yes. The estate hosts weddings and private events for about 20 to 100 people, mostly outdoors among the gardens, vineyards and terraces. A wedding takes over the whole estate, with a minimum stay of two nights. The wines served at the meals come only from the estate.

About Corte di Valle Wine and Resort

Corte di Valle follows an old Tuscan model called the villa-farm. The main house, the farm buildings and the land worked as one unit, a pattern that took shape in Chianti in the 16th century. The estate was founded on this model in the late 19th century, and its villa is styled on Tuscan villas of the 1700s. It stands among vines, olive trees and woods near Greve in Chianti. In recent years the house, its outbuildings and its land were brought back together as one property.

The estate farms about 20 hectares of vines, roughly 28 football pitches. They lie around the villa and on the nearby hills of Greti. Most of the vines are Sangiovese, the signature grape of Chianti Classico. Smaller plots grow Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Some vines are old and some were planted more recently. In the cellar the team steps in as little as possible: most wines age in steel tanks, and wood is kept for the bigger ones.

The Chianti Classico DOCG is pure Sangiovese, picked by hand. A Riserva from the best-suited plots spends longer in oak barrels. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon go only into the Toscana IGT wines. Pietraia and Vindia mix them with Sangiovese and age for about 18 to 24 months in wood. Ombre di Valle is pure Merlot. The range also includes a rosé, still and sparkling, an everyday red and white, and a Vin Santo. This sweet wine is made from grapes dried for about three months, then aged in wood for more than three years.

Wine is not the only crop. Olive groves around the villa give the estate its own extra virgin olive oil. A small plot grows saffron, picked flower by flower and prepared by hand.

Tastings are open to guests staying at the estate and to day visitors. The estate's own staff lead them from 10am to 6pm, in the cellar and among the vines. Plates of local food can be added. Visitors can also help prepare simple traditional dishes, then share them at lunch with the estate's wines. The rooms and apartments sit in the villa and in two historic buildings, Casa di Caccia and Casa del Bosco. Together they sleep up to 42 people.
