Palate

Vincenza feels smooth and fresh, with gentle tannins and a light salty edge. Steel tanks, followed by bottle ageing, keep Quirinoli's pure Piedirosso away from an oak-led style.

Overall

Choose Vincenza for its fresh fruit and gentle grip, with pizza or grilled fish. Quirinoli's steel-made Piedirosso suits a slight chill, served at 14 to 16°C.

The disciplinare, the place, the label

Vincenza from Quirinoli's Trecase vines

Vincenza comes from the estate's own vineyards on Mount Vesuvius. It is pure Piedirosso, bottled under the Vesuvio DOC name.

01

DOC, DOCG, IGT: what the badges mean

Italian wine law sorts bottles into a pyramid. DOCG sits at the top: tightly drawn boundaries, prescribed grapes, mandatory ageing, government tasting before release. DOC is the same idea with looser thresholds. IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) is broader still, requiring only that 85% of the grapes come from the named territory.

Vesuvio is in the DOC tier. That is not a quality verdict, it is a description of how much freedom the producer has at vinification and ageing.

Food Pairing

Pizza, ragù and fish with Vincenza

Vincenza's gentle tannins and fresh red fruit give it scope beyond meat. Quirinoli also pairs this Piedirosso with grilled tuna and swordfish.

Acidity matching Strong match

Pizza and tomato-led pasta

Vincenza's fresh Piedirosso fruit stays clear beside sharp tomato sauce. Its gentle tannins leave room for soft cheese and the crisp edge of a pizza crust.

Try with: Pizza Margherita · Pizza Marinara · Ragu alla bolognese · More pairings →

Tannin softening Strong match

Ragù and slow-cooked meat

The soft tannins in Quirinoli Vincenza give meat dishes a little grip without taking over. The fresh red fruit lifts a rich ragù, so the next mouthful feels less heavy.

Try with: Neapolitan ragù · Ragu alla bolognese · Agnello Ragu Lucano · More pairings →

Body matching Good match

Grilled tuna and swordfish

Firm fish can take a red with gentle tannins, such as Vincenza. Quirinoli's fresh Piedirosso keeps the pairing light on its feet, while the soft spice suits the char from the grill.

Fat cutting Good match

Firm cheeses and a mixed board

Vincenza's freshness clears the mouth after rich cheese. Its red fruit gives a sweet-smelling contrast to salt, while gentle Piedirosso tannins keep the grip in check.

Avoid Clash

Very hot chilli dishes

Fierce chilli can hide Vincenza's violet and wild strawberry notes. Keep the heat mild so this fresh Piedirosso still has room to show its gentle spice.
