Ceretto has bottled this four-hectare vineyard above Treiso as a single cru since the 2000 vintage, farming it biodynamically on Serralunga-like soils over 400 metres.
Italian wine law sorts bottles into a pyramid. DOCG sits at the top: tightly drawn boundaries, prescribed grapes, mandatory ageing, government tasting before release. DOC is the same idea with looser thresholds. IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) is broader still, requiring only that 85% of the grapes come from the named territory.
Barbaresco is in the DOCG tier. That is not a quality verdict, it is a description of how much freedom the producer has at vinification and ageing.

Bernadot is one small, named Treiso cru farmed by Ceretto, not a blended Barbaresco; scarce single-vineyard fruit is the biggest lever on the £100-plus price.
Hand-tended biodynamic viticulture above 400 metres lowers yields and raises labour cost against conventional Langhe fruit.
Barbaresco DOCG mandates two years ageing; Ceretto holds Bernadot in big botti, tying up cellar space and capital before the wine is sold.
UK excise duty is about £2.67 a bottle on still wine of 13.5 to 15% ABV, with 20% VAT on top; on a £114 bottle that is roughly £22 of tax.
Barbaresco DOCG needs 24 months ageing against Barolo's 38, so Bernadot reaches the market sooner and costs less to hold than a comparable Ceretto Barolo cru.
