Azienda Agricola Tre Monti

Azienda Agricola Tre Monti farms about 77 football pitches of vines across two neighbouring estates in eastern Emilia-Romagna. One sits in the cool Rio Sanguinario valley above Imola. The other tops a hillside near Forli, where a warm mountain wind meets salty air off the Adriatic. Sergio Navacchia and his wife Thea founded the winery in the early 1970s, and their sons David and Vittorio lead it today. The house made its name with Romagna Albana DOCG and Romagna Sangiovese DOC, then pushed further with an Albana matured on its skins in Georgian qvevri.

About Azienda Agricola Tre Monti

The identity of Tre Monti is the Navacchia family. Sergio and his wife Thea began bottling in the early 1970s, when most people still treated Romagna as bulk-wine country. Chasing quality here meant arguing with that wisdom. Their sons David and Vittorio run the cellar and the estate today, with a team of eleven. Tre Monti note that the team speaks four languages between them, including Romagnolo and Treviso dialect.

The two estates are twins on purpose, and different on purpose. The Imola property lies in the Rio Sanguinario valley, right on the line between Emilia and Romagna. That small, cool dip shelters the vines while the grapes ripen. The Forli property is the opposite: an open ridge above the Ravenna plain, swept by the warm fohn wind off the Apennines and the salty bora off the Adriatic. Each covers about 36 football pitches, 77 in all. Every wine in the catalogue is certified organic under Italian rules.

The range runs wide. Anabla leads the frizzanti. The SO2 Free line bottles reds and whites without added sulphites. Petrignone and Boldo are single-vineyard Sangiovese. A small set of skin-contact whites includes Vitalba, a Romagna Albana DOCG matured in Georgian qvevri. Bottles ship to twenty-six markets.

For most drinkers the entry point is Thea, named for the family matriarch. It is a Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva, and the critics at Vinous have reviewed recent vintages favourably. A white Rubicone IGP blend carries the same name. Vitalba took a Faccino award from Doctor Wine in 2025, which confirmed it as the estate's most distinctive bottle. Either is a useful reference for anyone who has only met Sangiovese in its Tuscan form.

Visits and tastings are booked directly on tremonti.it. There is one form for parties of two to nine and another for groups of ten or more. The estate is in Bergullo, ten minutes from central Imola, an easy stop between Bologna and the Adriatic coast.
