Cantine Volpi's short 12-hour skin maceration shows in the aromatics: lemon and grapefruit zest first, then white peach and a tropical hint of pineapple and melon. Fresh white flowers sit behind the citrus, with no oak in the way.
Volpi Era Grillo Organic
Cantine Volpi
Cantine Volpi's organic Sicilian Grillo, ICEA-certified and vegan, from the negoce ERA range. A short skin maceration lifts lemon, grapefruit and tropical fruit over a dry, refreshing palate. Around £10, built for aperitivo and seafood.
Tasting Cantine Volpi's organic Grillo
Cantine Volpi gives this Sicilian Grillo a short 12-hour skin contact, then cool stainless-steel ageing, for a fresh, citrus-led organic white with no oak.

- Taste profile
Dry and light-bodied, with the brisk acidity Grillo keeps when it is fermented cool in stainless steel. Citrus and orchard fruit carry a faint saline, almond-skin bitterness on the mid-palate that is typical of the grape grown in Sicily.
The close is clean and zesty rather than long, leaving lemon pith and a saline snap; with no barrel influence it stays bright and refreshing.
An honest, well-made organic Sicilian white from Cantine Volpi's negoce ERA range, pitched around £10 for everyday drinking. Best served well chilled as an aperitivo or with seafood over its first couple of years; it is not a wine to cellar.
Two organic vintages, around £10 a bottle
Stocked by two UK merchants across the 2024 and 2025 vintages, from £9.85 to £12 for the 75cl. Every listing is the same certified-organic, vegan-approved bottling.
How Era Grillo scores for food, value and everyday drinking
Scored as a crisp, indigenous-grape white at an organic sub-£10 price: strong on food, value and everyday drinking, low on cellaring and occasion.
Sub-£10, organic, light and food-flexible: close to an ideal everyday Italian white for aperitivo and weeknight seafood.
Certified-organic Sicilian Grillo from £9.85, below the usual organic-white benchmark: strong value for a vegan, ICEA-certified bottling.
An easy, classic expression of Sicily's Grillo at an approachable price, with no oak or tannin to navigate: a friendly first organic white.
Crisp, indigenous-grape white with lemon-zest acidity and a saline edge: a natural for Sicilian seafood and fried antipasti, weaker with red meat.
Scoring is rule-based and deterministic. The model and weightings are documented in our Wine Fit Score methodology.

2024 and 2025: an early-drinking Sicilian white
Grillo of this style is built for freshness, not the cellar. Drink the 2024 and 2025 within about three years of harvest, while the citrus and tropical fruit stay lively.

Perfect Pairings
Dishes that complement this wine
Sicilian seafood and aperitivo for Era Grillo
Grillo's lemon-zest acidity and saline edge cut fried and grilled seafood. The importer's own note points straight at fish, and the wine handles Sicilian swordfish and mussels with ease.
Grilled and fried Sicilian seafood
Grillo's lemon-zest acidity and light body slice through oil and char on fried or grilled fish. Its saline edge echoes the sea, so it lifts the plate rather than competing with it.
Try with: Pesce spada alla Siciliana · Fregula ai frutti di mare · Fritto misto · Grilled prawns · More pairings →
Mussels and shellfish
Briny mussels and clams need acidity and a little salinity to stay fresh. Grillo brings both, balancing the iodine note with no oak or sweetness to clash.
Try with: Impepata di cozze · Cozze arraganate · Spaghetti alle vongole · Linguine with clams · More pairings →
Fresh cheese and tomato antipasti
A young, citrus-driven white refreshes the palate between bites of milky mozzarella and sweet tomato. The acidity cuts the fat of fresh cheese while the fruit flatters ripe tomato.
Try with: Insalata Caprese · Bruschetta al pomodoro · Burrata · Marinated olives · More pairings →
Light tomato pizza and flatbread
Cheeseless tomato pizza and herby flatbread suit a crisp white better than a heavy red. Grillo's citrus and white-flower aromatics bridge to oregano and garlic without overpowering them.
Try with: Pizza Marinara · Pizza Margherita · Focaccia · Sfincione · More pairings →
Fried antipasti and arancini
Deep-fried Sicilian snacks coat the mouth; Grillo's brisk acidity scrubs it clean and resets the palate. The wine's light body keeps the match easy and unforced.
Try with: Arancini · Gnocco fritto · Panzerotti · Fried courgette · More pairings →
Big chilli heat and slow-cooked red meat
Fierce chilli amplifies the acidity and makes a light white taste thin, while slow-braised red meat simply overwhelms it. Keep Era Grillo for lighter, sea-facing plates.
Skip with: Vindaloo · Nduja-heavy pasta · Spicy Sichuan · Brasato al Barolo · Pairing guide →
Why Era Grillo is a drink-young white
There is no oak and no ageing requirement here, so cellaring adds nothing. Buy the current organic vintage by the case and pour it over its first couple of summers.
Best in the years above; holds without falling over either side.
A short splash decant softens the first-pour edge and opens the aromatics.
Stainless-steel made, no ageing requirement and built on freshness: an entry Terre Siciliane white to drink young, not to lay down.
£9.85 is the lowest tracked offer for the current vintage and we have no signal of further discounting.
