What La Tunella's Pinot Grigio tastes like
Warm bread crust, acacia blossom and ripe tropical fruit: that is how the Zorzettig family describe their own Pinot Grigio, and the glass agrees. It is fuller and rounder than most, because the wine rests on its yeast with regular stirring until bottling in March.

- Typical of Pinot Grigio
Warm bread crust first, then acacia blossom and ripe tropical fruit: the three notes the Zorzettig family pick out on their own sheet, and they are all there. Pear and lemon sit behind them. The bready edge comes from months resting on the spent yeast, stirred at set intervals until the March bottling.
Rounder and fuller than most Pinot Grigio. A slow, cool fermentation of 30 to 40 days and all that stirring give it its weight. Acidity is moderate, 5.5 grams a litre, so it feels soft rather than sharp. The crumbly marl and sandstone of the hills near Cividale leave a dry, stony grip at the back.
Medium length and dry, the bread-crust note returning with a ripe, almost honeyed edge from grapes picked by hand in the first week of September. At 13% it stays fresh.
The classic-range white of a family estate in Ipplis that makes about 430,000 bottles a year, and a Pinot Grigio with real character. Drink the 2025 from 2026 to 2028, with starters, cured ham, fish or white meats.

Where La Tunella Pinot Grigio fits
Strongest as a beginner-friendly white, for value and for everyday drinking: a dry, familiar grape at £15.75 that still tastes of somewhere. Good with food too, from fried starters to white fish and veal.
At £15.75 it sits near the bottom of the price range for the Friuli Colli Orientali whites we list. It is also well under the average price of the Friuli Pinot Grigio we list.
Pinot Grigio is the grape most UK drinkers already know, and this one is dry, 13%, soft in acidity and easy to like, while showing what the Friuli hills add.
Dry, rounded and gently acidic, it handles starters, cured ham, fish and white meats, and its weight copes with cheese dishes a light Pinot Grigio could not.
Under £16, a cork-sealed bottle that suits a weeknight supper of fish or chicken as well as a glass before dinner.
A DOC white from a Tre Bicchieri estate, but a classic-range bottle rather than a showpiece; bring it to a relaxed lunch, not a celebration.
Made to drink young: the 2025 is best from 2026 to 2028. The colour deepens with age but there is no gain in keeping it longer.

The 2025 vintage of La Tunella Pinot Grigio
Friuli's 2025 had a wet spring, an early, uneven summer and cool late-August nights, and the harvest estimates pointed to fresh, long-lived wines in the north. Tunella picks in the first week of September and bottles in March, so the 2025 reached shelves in spring 2026. Drink it from 2026 to 2028.

Friuli's 2025 came off good winter water reserves, a wet spring and an early, uneven summer, with cool late-August nights that lifted the aromas. The harvest estimates pointed to fresh, long-lived wines in the north. Tunella usually picks in the first week of September. Drink it from 2026 to 2028.

Dishes that go with this wine
What to eat with La Tunella Pinot Grigio
The family serve it with starters, cured ham, fish and white meats, or on its own as an aperitif. Its weight and gentle acidity suit richer plates than a light Pinot Grigio would: frico, creamed salt cod, veal in tuna sauce.
Frico and melted-cheese plates
Melted cheese coats the mouth, and this Pinot Grigio's weight and gentle acidity rinse it away without fighting it. The bread-crust note from its months on the yeast echoes the crust on a frico. A light, sharp Pinot Grigio tastes thin here; La Tunella's does not.
Try with: Frico · Fonduta · Polenta alla Valdostana · More pairings →
White meats: veal, chicken and rabbit
Veal and rabbit are mild, so they want a white with body rather than a bold red. This Friuli Colli Orientali Pinot Grigio has that body from 30 to 40 days of slow fermentation, and its soft acidity does not sour the meat. The Zorzettig family list white meats on their own sheet.
Try with: Vitello Tonnato · Cotoletta alla Milanese · Coniglio alla ligure · More pairings →
Cured ham and starters
Salt in cured ham makes a wine taste fruitier, and the ripe tropical fruit in this Pinot Grigio has room to show it. Fried starters want freshness, and at 13% with moderate acidity the glass stays clean. This is how the family serve it: as an aperitif, with starters and ham.
Try with: Gnocco fritto · Arancini · Insalata Caprese · More pairings →
Creamed cod and other rich fish dishes
Creamed salt cod and seafood with polenta have a richness that drowns a thin white. This Pinot Grigio's rounded body stands level with them, and the dry, stony finish from the Cividale hills keeps each mouthful clean.
Try with: Baccala Mantecato · Polenta e schie · Fregula ai frutti di mare · More pairings →
Steamed fish and shellfish
Steamed sea bass, prawns and mussels are delicate and a little sweet. The pear and lemon in this Friuli Pinot Grigio meet that sweetness, and its moderate acidity lifts the dish without any sharpness. Keep the seasoning light so the acacia note still shows.
Try with: Steamed sea bass · Salt and pepper prawns · Prawn Tempura · Mussels
Hot curries and chilli-heavy dishes
Chilli heat strips out the gentle acacia and bread-crust notes and leaves only alcohol and bitterness. At 13% and fully dry, this Pinot Grigio has no sweetness to cool the burn. Pour something with a little sugar, a Moscato d'Asti, with the hot dishes and keep this for milder plates.

Should you keep La Tunella Pinot Grigio?
No cellar needed. This is a wine for its first three years: the 2025 drinks well from 2026 to 2028, and the producer notes that the colour deepens with age. Buy by the six if you drink Pinot Grigio often, not to lay down.
Best in the years above; holds without falling over either side.
Pour it straight from the bottle.
Aim for the cooler end on a warm day; warmer end opens up more aromatics.

Common Questions
It is 100% Pinot Grigio from the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, the hills east of Udine around Cividale and Premariacco. The Zorzettig family grow it on crumbly clay-limestone and sandstone the locals call ponca. The name on the label, Friuli Colli Orientali, tells you it comes from these hills, not from the high-volume Pinot Grigio zones of the plain.
Warm bread crust, acacia blossom and ripe tropical fruit, then pear and lemon. It is dry, 13% alcohol, and fuller and rounder than most Pinot Grigio, with gentle rather than sharp acidity. The family's own note calls its character decisive, and that is fair.
Because of time in the cellar. The juice ferments slowly at 16 C for 30 to 40 days, then rests on its spent yeast, stirred at set intervals, until bottling in March. That stirring gives the wine its rounded body and bread-crust note. Yields on the hillside vines are also kept low, about a third under what the DOC allows.
Corney & Barrow sells the 2025 at £15.75 a bottle, as a single bottle or as a case of six. It is the only UK shop we track that lists it, so there is no price to compare between shops. For a Friuli Colli Orientali white that is a low price: it sits near the bottom of the range we list.
From now until 2028. Tunella picks in the first week of September and bottles the following March, so the 2025 reached shops in spring 2026 and is at its freshest in its first three years. Serve it cool, at 8 to 10 C. The colour deepens with age, but there is no gain in keeping it longer.
Starters, cured ham, fish and white meats, or a glass on its own before dinner, which is how the Zorzettig family serve it. Its extra weight suits richer plates than a light Pinot Grigio: frico, the Friulian cheese and potato cake, creamed salt cod, or veal in tuna sauce.
