Notte Rossa Primitivo Salento IGP
Terre di Sava
A soft, ripe Puglian red made only from Primitivo. Notte Rossa keeps it in steel tanks and never in barrel, so nothing woody gets in the way of the plum and cherry fruit. It took a silver medal at the 2026 International Wine Challenge.

Ripe plum, soft edges, no oak at all
Notte Rossa keeps this wine in steel from start to finish, so nothing woody gets between you and the fruit. Its own sheet calls it full-bodied, soft and easy to drink. Vivino drinkers agree, and name black fruit far more often than anything else.

Ripe plum and cherry lead, exactly as Notte Rossa describes it on its own sheet. That sheet also lists Mediterranean herbs. Drinkers on Vivino add vanilla, which is odd for a wine that never meets a barrel. It comes from ripe fruit, not from wood.
Soft and round, with the fruit turned up and the grip turned down. Notte Rossa calls it full-bodied, soft and harmonious, and that is fair. Black fruit is the note Vivino drinkers name most, ahead of vanilla and chocolate. The label's nutrition panel lists a gram of sugar per 100ml, which is what makes it feel generous.
Short to medium, warm, and still on plum. Ten days in the vat and no barrel leaves little tannin to hold on once the fruit fades.
An easy, ripe red that most people at a table will like, and it does that cheaply. Vivino averages 3.7 across 16,146 ratings, and this wine's 2025 took a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge.
One of the cheaper Primitivo bottles we track
We track 200 Primitivo bottles in stock across the site, and the middle price is about £18. This one sits near the bottom of that range. Only the standard bottle is in stock right now. The same wine comes in a magnum, but that one is waiting for a restock.
A Tuesday roast wine, not a birthday one
Strong on food and on value, weak on cellaring. At 13.5% alcohol and a price near the bottom of the 200 Primitivo bottles we have in stock, this is a bottle for a weeknight dinner rather than a special one.
Low teens in pounds, mild at 13.5% alcohol, and forgiving with most weeknight cooking. Notte Rossa also sells it as a bag-in-box, which tells you how it is meant to be drunk.
One grape, no oak, soft tannin and ripe fruit, at 13.5% alcohol. There is nothing here to puzzle over, and buyers rate it 16.6 out of 20 at Vinatis.
Cheaper than most of the 200 Primitivo bottles in stock on this site, and within pennies of its UK rivals. It still took silver at the 2026 International Wine Challenge.
Soft grip and ripe fruit make it easy with roast meat, meat sauces and hard cheese. Those are the three matches Notte Rossa names itself. It is too low in acidity for fish.
An entry Salento IGP at a supermarket price. The gift-boxed magnum is the one version that would look right on a table, and it is a step up in cost.
Salento IGP sets no minimum ageing, and this wine spends its whole life in steel before going on sale within a year of picking. There is nothing built in to reward waiting.
Scoring is rule-based and deterministic. The model and weightings are documented in our Wine Fit Score methodology.

What 2025 and 2024 did to the fruit
Coldiretti reported a hot, dry 2025 across Puglia, with healthy even ripening and a Primitivo crop about a fifth bigger than 2024. The 2024 came in about two weeks early after drought, smaller but sound.

Puglia opened the 2025 harvest with Primitivo in late August after a hot, dry summer. Coldiretti reported healthy, even ripening and a crop about a fifth bigger than 2024. This bottling took a silver medal at the 2026 International Wine Challenge.

Puglia picked about two weeks early in 2024 after drought and unusual heat, so the crop was smaller but the fruit came in sound. Luca Maroni scored this wine's 2024 at 95 points in his 2026 yearbook.

Perfect Pairings
Dishes that go with this wine
Food for a soft, ripe Salento red
Notte Rossa points its own buyers at robust pasta dishes, red meat and hard cheeses. Ripe fruit and light grip mean this wine sits under food rather than fighting it. The one thing it does badly is bitter greens.
Roast and grilled red meat
Char and fat on a lamb chop need a wine with some weight behind them. This one has that weight without the hard grip of a young Barolo, the firm tannic red of Piedmont. Its ripe plum fruit reads almost sweet next to the char.
Try with: Ribeye steak · Lamb chops · Beef stew · Roast pork · More pairings →
Pasta with a slow meat sauce
A long-cooked meat sauce coats the mouth, and a firm wine fights it. This Primitivo is soft enough to slide under the sauce instead. Notte Rossa asks for robust pasta dishes on its own sheet, and a lasagne is the everyday version of that.
Try with: Ragu alla bolognese · Lasagna · Malloreddus alla Campidanese · Agnello Ragu Lucano · More pairings →
Hard, salty cheese
Salt in an aged cheese sharpens ripe fruit and makes it taste fresher. Notte Rossa names hard cheeses itself. Pecorino, the salty Italian sheep's cheese, does this better here than a creamy cheese, which would flatten the wine.
Try with: Pecorino sardo e pan carasau · Caciocavallo farcito · Strong cheddar cheese · More pairings →
Smoke and char from the grill
Smoke needs something ripe to land on, or it just tastes burnt. The jammy plum in this wine meets it halfway, and Vivino drinkers pick up smoke in the glass too. Vinatis lists barbecue as a match on its UK page.
Try with: BBQ ribs · Arrosticini · Porchetta · More pairings →
Salami, and pizza with a kick
Chilli heat and cured salt both bite, and a wine with ripe fruit takes the edge off them. At 13.5% this bottle is milder than most Primitivo, so it cools the chilli rather than stoking it. Callmewine lists salami and cured meat first.
Try with: Pizza Diavola · Calzone · Lucanica · More pairings →
Bitter greens and sharp dressings
Bitter leaves and vinegar strip a low-acid red and leave it tasting flat and oddly sweet. Orecchiette with cime di rapa is Puglia's own dish, but it wants Verdeca, the crisp dry white of the same region. Keep this bottle for the meat.
Skip with: Bitter greens · Vinaigrette salads · Globe artichokes · Pairing guide →
There is nothing here worth waiting for
Picked in the first week of September and sold within the year, with no barrel to slow it down. Drink the 2025 now and up to about 2029. Notte Rossa asks for 16 to 18°C, which is cooler than most warm British rooms.
Best in the years above; holds without falling over either side.
A short splash decant softens the first-pour edge and opens the aromatics.

£12.20 is the lowest tracked offer for the current vintage and we have no signal of further discounting.

Common Questions
Ripe plum and cherry, a round soft feel, and very little grip. Notte Rossa's own tasting sheet calls it full-bodied, soft and easy to drink. Black fruit is the note Vivino drinkers mention most, followed by vanilla and chocolate.
No, it is a dry red. It tastes richer than most dry reds because the fruit is picked very ripe in the Puglian heat. The label's nutrition panel lists one gram of sugar per 100ml, so there is a touch of softness and nothing like a dessert wine.
Roast and grilled red meat, pasta with a slow meat sauce, and hard salty cheeses. Notte Rossa names those three itself. Vinatis, which sells it here, adds barbecue and charcuterie, and both fit the ripe fruit well.
It is 13.5% alcohol, which is mild for a Primitivo. The shops we track sell it in the low teens in pounds, cheaper than most of the 200 Primitivo bottles in stock on this site. Its rivals on the same UK shelf sit within pennies of it.
Drink it now. The grapes are picked in the first week of September and the wine is sold within the year, with no time in barrel to slow it down. The 2025 will drink well up to about 2029.
