Vigneti del Vulture

Vigneti del Vulture is the Farnese Vini group's estate in Basilicata. Its vines work the lower eastern slopes of Monte Vulture, an extinct volcano, between 300 and 600 metres. Cool heights and ash-rich soils slow the ripening and give Aglianico the late-harvest tension it needs. The estate bottles two main labels under the Canio name: Canio Aglianico del Vulture DOC and Canio Bianco Basilicata IGT. Farnese, based in Abruzzo, built much of its UK reach on Aglianico from these slopes.

About Vigneti del Vulture

Vigneti del Vulture sits on the eastern slopes of Monte Vulture. The extinct volcano's tuff soils define the Aglianico del Vulture DOC. The estate is the Basilicata arm of Farnese Vini, the group based in Abruzzo. Farnese built much of its UK distribution on volume Aglianico from the Vulture zone, plus Montepulciano from its home area around Pescara.

Monte Vulture rises above the village of Rionero in Vulture and tops out just over thirteen hundred metres. The vineyards work the lower volcanic slopes, between three hundred and six hundred metres. Cool elevation and ash rich subsoils slow the ripening. That delay gives Aglianico the late harvest tension the variety needs. This is the historic centre of southern Italian volcanic red production. The Vulture trio of Aglianico del Vulture DOC, Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG and the Basilicata IGT umbrella all draw from these slopes.

The Canio range sits in the accessible tier of the Farnese portfolio. Canio Aglianico del Vulture DOC is the flagship. Expect ripe black fruit, firm tannin and the smoke and iron note typical of well handled Vulture Aglianico. Canio Bianco is the entry tier Basilicata IGT white. It is made from a blend of regional varieties in a fresh, accessible style. It opens the price point of the range for casual pairing. Both wines are produced at scale to support Farnese's broad UK supermarket and restaurant placement.

Vigneti del Vulture is a production estate under Farnese Vini ownership. There is no published public hospitality programme at the Basilicata site. Trade and visit enquiries flow through Farnese Vini's central commercial team in Abruzzo.
