About Feudo Croci

Feudo Croci began with a journey. In 2001 Gian Andrea Tinazzi travelled to Salento and was taken by the heat-baked Primitivo vineyards that define this corner of southern Puglia. Within months the family had secured land in the Manduria zone. The new estate became the Puglian arm of the Tinazzi operation. The family headquarters is Cantina Tinazzi at Lugana di Sirmione, in Veneto.

Two labels carry the estate. Imperio LXXIV is the entry point, a richly ripe Primitivo di Manduria DOC. It was made for the wide UK retail audience that fuelled the Primitivo boom of the past decade. Byzantium sits above it. It comes from older alberello vines, with a longer maceration and a stronger stamp of oak. Both wines lean into the warm, round, near-port style that is the region's signature when handled with restraint.

The land here is hot, dry and white-soiled. The Ionian coast softens the harshest summer afternoons. Primitivo has always been bush-trained at low yields on this plateau, which gives small berries packed with flavour. Feudo Croci keeps that tradition where its older plots allow. Newer plantings grow on wires.

Feudo Croci works as the family's production estate in Puglia rather than a visitor venue. Tasting requests are usually routed through the Tinazzi central office at Ca' de Rocchi in Veneto. In the UK the bottles ship through the same Tinazzi team that handles the family's Valpolicella and Lugana wines.
