- Typical of Sangiovese
Across vintages it shows earthy, leathery notes over cherry, raspberry and black cherry, with tobacco, cedar and pepper. The 2023 adds roses and violets. The grapes grow organically at 450 to 500 metres in Gaiole, on limestone and clay.
Cherry and blackberry fruit sit beside the earthy, leathery notes. The 2023 is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a hint of graphite. It was fermented as whole berries in bare concrete tanks with its own yeasts, then spent about two years in large Grenier oak casks.
The finish is refreshing, then turns warm at the end, where the 15.5% alcohol of the 2023 shows.

What to eat with Riecine Chianti Classico Riserva
This Gaiole Sangiovese, full-bodied in the 2023, wants red meat, ragù and mushrooms. Keep it away from hot chilli.
Grilled steak and rare beef
The tannins of this Chianti Classico Riserva grip the protein and fat in a charred steak, and the meat makes them feel softer. A full-bodied Sangiovese like the 2023 has the weight to match a thick cut.
Try with: Fiorentina steak · Ribeye steak · Sirloin steak · Fillet steak · More pairings →
Ragù and baked pasta
Sangiovese's fresh acidity meets the tomato in a slow-cooked ragù and keeps a rich sauce from feeling heavy. That is why a Chianti Classico Riserva sits so well beside lasagne.
Try with: Ragu alla bolognese · Lasagna · Agnello Ragu Lucano · More pairings →
Braised veal and slow-cooked beef
A full-bodied Riserva like the 2023 matches the weight of meat braised for hours. Its velvety tannins and supple fruit sit with the sauce rather than fighting it.
Try with: Ossobuco alla Milanese · Brasato al Barolo · Porchetta · More pairings →
Porcini and truffle
The earthy, spicy side of this Gaiole Sangiovese echoes the woodland taste of porcini and truffle. Its velvety tannins stay soft beside a creamy risotto.
Try with: Porcini mushroom risotto · Truffle risotto · Tagliatelle al tartufo di Acqualagna · More pairings →
Aged sheep's cheese and roast pork
Salt in an aged pecorino or a crisp porchetta makes the tannins of a Chianti Classico Riserva taste smoother. The wine's acidity then refreshes the palate after each fatty bite.
Try with: Pecorino sardo e pan carasau · Porchetta · Roast pork
Hot chilli and fiery curries
Chilli heat makes alcohol and tannin feel hotter and more bitter. At 15.5% alcohol, the 2023 Riserva would turn harsh beside a hot curry.
Skip with: Green curry · Jungle Curry · Crispy chilli beef · Lamb bhuna · Pairing guide →
