Wine fit score

Where Colle Marianna Soave scores best

Best value and Best with food lead the scores. Antonio Fattori's Colle Marianna is a fresh, dry Soave at 11% that suits fish and shellfish.

Best value 8.5/10

At about £14 for the 2025 and about £9 for the 2024 on offer, it costs less than most of the Soave on this site. Drinkers rate it steadily from one vintage to the next.

Best with food 8.2/10

Lemony freshness and a creamy feel suit fish, shellfish, creamed salt cod and Venetian rice dishes. At 11% it is gentle with delicate food, but hot chilli overwhelms it.

Best intro to this style 8.0/10

A dry, fresh Soave with pear, apple and lemon and a soft, creamy feel. It is an easy first taste of Garganega, the main grape of Soave.

Best everyday bottle 8.0/10

Dry, fresh and 11% alcohol, at about £14 for the 2025 or about £9 for the 2024 on offer. It is a white for a weeknight fish supper or a glass with snacks before dinner.

Best for an occasion 3.0/10

An everyday Soave rather than a showpiece. It suits a relaxed lunch more than a gift for a keen wine lover.

Best for cellar 2.0/10

One to drink young. We would drink the 2024 by 2027 and the 2025 by 2028, while the fruit is fresh.

Scoring is rule-based and deterministic. The model and weightings are documented in our Wine Fit Score methodology.

The disciplinare, the place, the label

Who makes Colle Marianna Soave: Antonio Fattori of Terrossa

Antonio Fattori took over his family's winery at the end of the 1970s. The family has grown grapes on the hills of Terrossa, part of Roncà, for four generations. Colle Marianna is the name on this label, not the name of the winery, and it is not in the family's own list of wines.

01

DOC, DOCG, IGT: what the badges mean

Italian wine law sorts bottles into a pyramid. DOCG sits at the top: tightly drawn boundaries, prescribed grapes, mandatory ageing, government tasting before release. DOC is the same idea with looser thresholds. IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) is broader still, requiring only that 85% of the grapes come from the named territory.

Soave is in the DOC tier. That is not a quality verdict, it is a description of how much freedom the producer has at vinification and ageing.

02

The denomination rules, in detail

  • Allowed grapes. 3 varieties listed in the disciplinare
  • Yield ceiling. 15.0 tonnes per hectare
  • Minimum ABV. 10.5% vol
  • Minimum ageing. No statutory minimum - producers release on their own schedule
  • Tasting panel. No mandatory pre-release tasting
03

Region and area context

Soave falls within Veneto, covering Verona: the eastern hills and plain around Soave and Monteforte d'Alpone, to the Colli Scaligeri. The denomination is further divided into 2 sub-zones.

Perfect Pairings

Dishes that go with this wine

Food Pairing

Seafood, Venetian rice and white meat with Colle Marianna Soave

This Soave is dry and fresh, with lemony acidity and a creamy feel, at 11% alcohol. That suits shellfish, white fish and Venetian dishes such as creamed salt cod and risi e bisi. Hot chilli does not suit it.

Fat cutting Strong match

Creamed salt cod and Italian seafood dishes

Creamed salt cod is rich with olive oil and salt. The lemony freshness of this Garganega Soave cuts through the oil, and its own creamy feel suits the soft texture.

Try with: Baccala Mantecato · Polenta e schie · Fregula ai frutti di mare · More pairings →

Salt balance Strong match

Mussels, oysters and crab

Shellfish tastes of the sea, salty with a hint of sweetness. This dry Soave works like a squeeze of lemon, and its stony edge sits well with the salt. At 11%, it does not swamp the delicate meat.

Try with: Mussels · Impepata di cozze · Oysters · Crab

Body matching Good match

Risi e bisi and creamy risotto

Risi e bisi, the Venetian rice and peas, is soft and gentle. This Soave has the same gentle weight and a creamy feel, so neither one covers the other. Saffron risotto works the same way.

Try with: Risi e bisi · Risotto alla Milanese · Pumpkin risotto · More pairings →

Aromatic bridge Good match

Roast chicken and white meat with herbs

The herbal hint of sage in this Garganega Soave meets the herbs on a roast bird. Its lemony freshness lifts white meat the way a squeeze of lemon would.

Try with: Roast chicken · Lemon chicken · Coniglio alla ligure

Acidity matching Good match

Tomato salads and fish with lemon

Tomato and lemon bring sharpness to a plate. A Soave with its own lemony freshness matches it, so the wine does not taste flat beside the dressing. Soft pear fruit keeps this Garganega white from tasting sour.

Try with: Insalata Caprese · Steamed sea bass · Fish and Chips

Avoid Clash

Hot curries and chilli dishes

Chilli heat strips away the delicate pear and apricot of this Soave and leaves it tasting thin and sharp. Keep this Garganega white for gentle food.

Skip with: Chicken madras · Jungle Curry · Crispy chilli beef · Pasta arrabbiata · Pairing guide →

Drinking Colle Marianna Soave young: the 2024 by 2027, the 2025 by 2028

Soave, Garganega and Veneto: where Colle Marianna fits

Common Questions

Antonio Fattori makes it. His family has grown grapes on the hills of Terrossa, part of Roncà in the province of Verona, for four generations. Colle Marianna is the name on the label, not the name of the winery.

It is a dry, fresh white with pear, apple, apricot and lemon, a broad, creamy feel and a stony edge. It is 11% alcohol.

Fish, shellfish and gentle Venetian dishes suit it best, such as creamed salt cod, risi e bisi or mussels. Its lemony freshness cuts through olive oil and butter. Avoid hot chilli, which flattens its delicate fruit.

Drink it young: the 2024 by 2027 and the 2025 by 2028. Both are ready to drink now.

Laithwaites sells the 2025 at about £14 and the 2024 at about £9. It is the one shop on this page, so there is no price to compare here.
