The estate sits at Via Russiz 7 in Capriva del Friuli, on the southern edge of the Collio Goriziano hills in the Province of Gorizia. The land has more than seven centuries of viticultural history, originally tied to the Torre Tasso princely family who reached Friuli in 1273 and whose eagle still appears on the Russiz Superiore label. Marco Felluga bought the property in 1967, eleven years after founding his own winery in Gradisca d'Isonzo, and treated Russiz Superiore as the cru of the family group.
The Felluga family is now in its sixth generation in wine. The line begins with Michele Felluga in late nineteenth-century Istria, where Malvasia and Refosco were the working grapes, and reaches Ilaria Felluga, who runs both Russiz Superiore and Marco Felluga from Capriva. Her father Roberto Felluga, fifth generation, set the technical and sustainability direction that the estate still follows. Since 2024 the company has been backed by a partnership with the Veronese family group Tommasi Family Estates.
The vineyard is one hundred hectares in total, fifty of them planted, with a planting density of six thousand vines per hectare. Production is led by white wines from the Collio Goriziano DOC: Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio bottled as single varieties, plus the Col Disore Bianco as the estate's top white blend. The reds are Cabernet Franc and Merlot in single-variety form, and the Rosso Riserva degli Orzoni, aged in the historic Barricaia degli Orzoni red-wine cellar that visitors walk through on the estate tour.
Russiz Superiore is certified under the Italian Ministry of the Environment's VIVA sustainable-agriculture programme. The vineyard work uses integrated pest management, ozone treatments and natural fertilisers, with the stated longer-term aim of circular-economy production. A photovoltaic plant installed at the Russiz cellar in February 2021 made the operation energy-independent on site.
For visitors, the estate runs three tiered Collio tasting experiences from the Russiz cellar in Capriva del Friuli, ranging from a sixty-minute three-wine walk to a two-hour five-wine tasting that includes two Riserve. Booking is required and routed through marcofelluga.com. The Relais Russiz Superiore on the same estate offers accommodation alongside the cellar visit.
